Same shit, different package

Did John McCain vote for Kerry, or Gore, or FDR? I don’t really care. What bothers me about this story is what is described as the 28/48 disconnect–that George W. Bush has an approval rating of 28% while 48% of people are saying they’d vote for McCain.

Now, they are not the same person, I know. But McCain has begun the descent into complete insanity, and is trying to emulate Mr. 28% as much as humanly possible when it comes to war, tax cuts, and scaring the shit out of people.

My point is that the same shit in a different package is still shit. If you took the Pittsburgh Pirates and kept the same players and management but moved them to a brand new stadium, well, they’ll still suck. McCain is the same exact god-awful ideas in an older, “I’ve been tortured” package. There is virtually no difference between the two.

So why the disconnect? One, the bickering between the two Democratic candidates makes anything seem like an upgrade. Two, the media has been so easy on McCain, it’s hard to come off looking that bad–the media is pretty easy on Bush too, which is why he actually has 28% of support, instead of about 3….

The rest of the article talks about McCain’s ‘changes of heart’ in an attempt to get in bed with his conservative base. This shouldn’t be much of a surprise. As much as he positions himself as an ‘independent maverick’ or whatever the media is calling him these days, he still believes in endless oil wars, tax cuts for the rich (now), and says things about his competition that are so crazy it actually gives you a headache (Democrats don’t care about the poor being the strangest and most hilarious).

McCain is asking you for four more years of George W. Bush. If that’s what you want, vote for him (Note: You shouldn’t want that). But don’t act as if they’re two separate entities. They’re the same. Just call them McCush. Or Bucain. Or Insane. Whatever works for you.
